Say hello to our new development Abarth 124

What a fun little car! Our first impressions of our latest development car. The Abarth 124 has bags of character and noise for that matter! In sport mode with the valved Monza exhaust wide open most people cannot believe it’s only a 1400cc.

The Fiat 124 and Mazda MX5 are supplied with a 280mm disc and single piston sliding caliper whereas the Abarth gets a 4 piston caliper on the same diameter disc. With a 17’’ wheel as standard there was plenty of scope for improvement. UK Sales Manager Nicholas Counsell commented ”The 124 is well balanced and good fun to drive but the brakes need more bite and better modulation’’

Development was relatively straight forward for the team in Italy, with no major obstacles to overcome. A 330mm two piece disc was chosen giving a huge increase in disc diameter over standard while not adding too much crucial un-sprung weight. With a few caliper and piston layouts tested it was the B33 caliper with 8 pistons that was chosen for its great modulation and superb stopping power, not to mention, great looks. We went for an anodised finish in candy red.

The 330mm disc and 8 piston caliper fits with the Abarth 124’s standard 17’’ wheels without the need for spacers or any modification to the car and will work with the cars ESP and ABS – it truly is a bolt on kit delivery amazing braking performance when pushed hard while feeling even better than the OEM system when driving in town.

The kit delivers great communication between the driver and brakes, allowing to push to the limits of the traction and computer intervention. With relentless performance the Abarth 124 is now ready for all day spirited Sunday drivers or heavy track action.
