Unlocking the True Potential: TAROX Introduces Track-Focused Brake Kit for BMW M2

In the realm of high-performance vehicles, the BMW M2 has emerged as the unsung hero, capturing the hearts of track enthusiasts unlike its larger counterparts, the M3 and M4. The M2, often hailed as the ‘real M3,’ has cultivated a genuine cult following within the track day community for its unparalleled handling and agility.

While the M3 and M4 faced challenges upon release, with a penchant for being a handful both in handling and power delivery, the M2 arrived on the scene as a breath of fresh air. With tighter handling, better weight distribution, and a superior balance, the M2 immediately garnered praise, marking the resurgence of the authentic M car experience.

Sharing several chassis components with its larger siblings, the M2, in its early days, received chassis hand-me-downs not entirely suited for its unique identity. Most M3 and M4’s were on 19” and 20” wheels. Looks were maybe taking precedent over performance. Our M3 kit is 380mm and uses our flagship street spec brake caliper the B38R 8. With huge improvements on OE we thought this setup would be ideal to pass on to the M2.

However, as the track day community embraced the M2, a trend emerged—downsizing to 18” wheels. This shift brought numerous benefits on the track, with drivers appreciating the enhanced performance and a broader range of tire choices.

Representing TAROX in Korea, Motion in Motorsport (MIM) took note of this evolving trend. MIM’s Tony, a key figure in the TAROX family, suggested revisiting the drawing board for a bespoke M2 brake kit, with an emphasis on track performance. The result? A ground breaking solution—a motorsport-inspired, bolt-on kit, a departure from TAROX’s traditional street-focused offerings.

Contrary to the norm in the industry, where motorsport and street applications rarely converge due to differing requirements, TAROX defied the odds with this track-centric M2 kit. While motorsport prioritizes ultimate performance without compromising longevity, the challenge was to integrate these features into a kit suitable for both the track and the street.

Motorsport focuses on ultimate performance with disregard for longevity and performance over time. Parts are designed to work best in single scenario. Race parts are also designed with a weight and driving style  radically different to that of the average road driver. Brake power comes over modulation, rigidity over noise and vibration, weight over thermal capacity.

One of the key innovations is the transition from the B38R to the R380, a race-only 6-piston caliper. Surprisingly, moving from an 8-piston to a 6-piston configuration can enhance braking performance, thanks to a larger piston area. This switch not only allows for fitment within smaller wheels but also results in a significant 4kg weight reduction, directly impacting the car’s handling and acceleration. The R380, designed for specific use, epitomizes TAROX’s commitment to high-performance braking solutions.

To maintain quality and precision, TAROX has opted to limit the supply and installation of this track-focused M2 kit through a select group of TAROX BMW specialists. This decision ensures that enthusiasts looking to elevate their M2’s performance receive unparalleled expertise and service.

In essence, TAROX’s latest offering transcends conventional boundaries, bringing the thrill of motorsport directly to the streets, and reaffirming the BMW M2’s status as a true track icon.
